A charming mid-century ceramic elephant jardinière stand, richly glazed in green, ochre, blue, and cream. Modelled in the style of Chinese export garden ceramics, the elephant bears ornate trappings and supports a square plinth-top designed to hold a small planter or vase.
These colourful ceramic elephants became popular decorative imports to Britain during the 1960s–70s, inspired by earlier Tang and Qing dynasty motifs symbolising wisdom, peace, and prosperity.
In very good vintage condition with only minor age-related wear to the glaze.
